Become a Lifeguard
We are working with local agencies and partners regarding best practices for offering swimming programs during these unprecedented times. You may use the "Register Online" button for the sessions we are currently anticipating running. We will post more information as we know and learn more.
Prepare yourself to help others while giving you a rewarding job opportunity. Learn the duties and responsibilities of lifeguarding, including surveillance, how to use rescue equipment, and how to care for someone who has sustained an injury.
We offer 2 learning formats: Blended learning which includes online study plus onsite skill practice and testing. Our traditional format is all onsite learning. There is a pre-course session in which you are required to pass a swimming skills test.
Upon successful course completion, participants receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with CPR/AED and First Aid for lifeguards (valid for 2 years). All classes offered will certify you for any depth of water, unless they indicate otherwise.
Prerequisite: 15 years or older, swim 300 yd continuously with breath control, swim 25 yds, retrieve a 10lb diving brick and swim back to wall, and tread water without use of hands for 2 minutes.
